The Exclusive Interview With Sneakerhead Whitney Alexandra, Curator of StyleAlexandra.com | HF
Let’s admit that if you love sneakers, it’s a relationship that cannot be broken. Yeah, there are plenty other styles of shoe — like boots, dress shoes.. heck, even sandals for crying out loud. But, it’s the soft, cushy insole of a sneaker that makes you feel like your living room is every where you step. Offering support with every stride, and stability with every glide, sneakers are just plain awesome.
Let’s not talk about the style — which we didn’t mention earlier. Sneakers have history in the fashion department. Need we speak about the legendary Air Jordan collection, that puts people all over the world, sleeping in tents outside retailers, awaiting the release of.. yes, a “sneaker”? It not just a shoe. Its culture. And many embrace the sneakers they love because of their passion for them.
That’s where Whitney Alexandra comes into the picture. Being a sneakerhead herself, she is the proud curator of an extremely awesome sneaker website: stylealexandra.com She falls into this category like many others, being a sneaker “zombie”… (yes, we called her a Nike® craving zombie) who would probably wait in line for weeks for a new pair of Air Yeezy’s. Why? Because of her love for design & style. Her desire to have those limited edition exclusive colorways on her feet.. that yo’ ass ain’t got.
Needless to say, we got a hold of her for a quick 15 mins to discuss her amazing website, and to talk “kicks” with HF®. Sneakerheads… Class is in session.
HF: When we visited your website, stylealexandra.com, the first thing that popped up in our heads was “this chick loves sneakers.” Tell us a bit about your backstory… How’d you get involved in “sneaker love” ??
WA: I started playing hoops as a youngin’ and I always looked up to my brother who was a die hard Jordan fan and collected Nike and Jordan sneakers himself. In the order of my brother is who first put me on the game of Sneakers. By the age of 7, I too, was a Jordan fanatic and had an obsession with sneakers. My love for hoops always helped to keep my Jordan game on point.
HF: Give us your top 5 when it comes to sneakers (all time).
WA: Yikes this is a tuffy…I don’t think its possible for me to narrow it down to top 5. Ill give you 10, and that is still stretching it!
The Style Alexandra’s Picks:
Air Jordan 6 Black Infrared – I had 2 pairs of these as a youngin…they are both trashed.
Air Jordan 1 OG Bred – This is where it all began.
Nike Air Max 90 / Originally known as the Air Max lll “Infrared” (Greatest Air Max silhouette to this day)
Nike Air Max Penny lll
Air Jordan lll Black Cement
Air Jordan IV ”BRED”
Nike Air Python OG
Reebok “The Question” “White/Navy” (I went to prom in these joints)
Air Jordan XI “Concord”
Air Jordan XVI “White/Navy”
Also, Converse “All Star” Chucks…..
HF: if you could design a sneaker, (which you’ve probably already thought about doing lol) explain to us what you would attempt to accomplish as far as design goes…
WA: Ahh, if I were to design a sneaker the aesthetics would be very simple. It would have super clean lines with a gum sole along classic red and black colorway… and it would most certainly be a high top.  I will have to create a sketch and send it over to you….
HF: How many pairs of sneakers do you own?
WA: **As she calculates in her head** Somewhere in the hundreds….
HF: As a sneaker blogger, what do you plan on accomplishing (in this year) to promote your website?
My goal this year is to make a larger impact — not only on the sneaker community but the streetwear community as well. As a woman who has a tomboy side, I’d like to share how a girl can still have a feminine look while still showing off a taste of their “boyish” swag. I want people to seek me out for fashion advice. I have been a wardrobe stylist for over 8 years for both editorial and individuals. I would like to bring together my styling and my blog into more of a neutral channel. Right now, I keep the two very separated because my editorial styling covers many genres. Lastly, styling men is my forte (So all you men out there…HOLLA).
